Hytale Survival 101: Your First Night in Zone 1

Welcome to the Emerald Grove, also known as Zone 1. This lush, Earth-elemental biome is the starting point for your Hytale journey. While it may seem peaceful with its Kweebecs and deer, the first night can be a rude awakening for unprepared adventurers.

Phase 1: The Scavenger (Morning)

As soon as you spawn, your priority is gathering basic crafting components. You don't need a tool for everything:

  • Forage: Break bushes for plant fibers and pick up loose rocks for stone rubble.
  • Harvest: Break the base of a tree to gather wood efficiently. You'll need this for your first crafting station.
  • Eat: Collect wild berries and apples. Hytale uses a health-and-stamina system instead of traditional hunger, so keep these on your hotbar for quick healing.

Phase 2: The Craftsman (Afternoon)

Once you have raw materials, it's time to build your toolkit.

  1. Craft a Builder's Bench: This is your primary station for creating building parts and advanced tools.
  2. Forge Tools: Craft a wooden axe, pickaxe, and most importantly, a Sword. Using tools or bare hands in combat is highly ineffective.
  3. Unlock the Memory System: This is a critical early-game mechanic. Unlocking it early ensures you don't lose progress on your creature and enemy encounters.

Phase 3: The Architect (Evening)

As evening approaches (around the 7-minute mark), you must secure a perimeter.

  • Build a Shelter: A simple enclosed shack with a roof is essential.
  • Utilities: Place a fireplace for light/warmth, a crate for storage, and a mattress to set your spawn point.

Phase 4: Survival (Night)

When the sun sets, the Emerald Grove transforms. Voidspawn and Trorks emerge from the shadows.

  • Stay Indoors: If you aren't geared up, the night is best spent refining resources or planning your next move.
  • Light it Up: Use torches to illuminate your surroundings.
  • Defense: If you must fight, crafting a shield at your Builder's Bench will significantly increase your survivability.
